eJustice – The Objectives
- The main objective is to improve the efficiency of legal procedures, too often cumbersome and paper-based, leading to confusion, delay, and miscarriage of justice.
- It offers innovative solutions by integrating ICT and biometrics for controlling and tracking authorized access to a legal process which is automated as workflow systems, and represented in visual format.
- eJustice can also provide solutions for cross-border procedures such as the European Arrest Warrant and European Judicial Assistance, with the support of the European Judicial Network and Eurojust, helping provide and create better justice across the EU.
eJustice – The successes
- eJustice is the result of the work between legal practitioners and IT people and has produced the very first modelling of legal processes. It can be adapted to any legal process and allows people involved in the process to find very easily the information they are looking for.
- eJustice has also helped significantly increase the security necessary in the management of electronic identity
- eJustice has also given birth to an innovative new company in NorthEast England called MobileGov. While working on eJustice, Michel Frenkiel realised that an IT risk, so far ignored, was becoming critical. Protecting your PC from attacks directed at its software has always been difficult. With the rapidly growing use of USB sticks, protecting your PC from authorised equipment has become critical. Michel found a way to protect any hardware and patented his solution with a colleague. The invention generated interest from the French national security services and it went on to win the Best Innovation 2005 award at Capital IT. They now develop the solution through their Newcastle-based company MobileGov. With Cannes City Council as their first pilot user, they are in talks with Symantec to develop a license agreement.
