Nissan in Europe launches electric mobility educational micro site

Nissan in Europe has launched an educational micro site - www.electric-mobility.com - aimed at raising the public’s awareness about the benefits  of electric mobility including the basic workings of an electric car, the driving experience, the new EV lifestyle, the cost of ownership and environmental matters.

The micro site is the first step in an educational campaign by Nissan to help its zero emission governmental partners spread the word about electric vehicles and their advantages.  In the near future, www.electric-mobility.com will be linked to all Nissan in Europe websites, as well as the websites of its zero emission partners, including Portugal, Ireland, One North East in the UK and the Principality of Monaco.

Through www.electric-mobility.com and social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, Nissan and its zero emission partners hope to create a reliable source of information on electric mobility for all Europeans interested in a cleaner future. Nissan will be meeting with its zero emission governmental partners at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as online bloggers, to discuss how to further promote electric mobility in Europe.

The www.electric-mobility.com site has been launched as Nissan gears up for the introduction of Nissan LEAF - the world’s first purpose-designed zero emission vehicle – which will go on sale in Japan, the US and Europe in late 2010. Together with its alliance partner Renault, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has signed about 50 partnerships with governments, cities and other organizations around the world for the promotion of zero emission mobility.

The electric mobility twitter page is already linked to One North East’s twitter feed, and the electric mobility website will contain resources that will help to promote the low carbon vehicle message in North East England, where 1,300 charging points are to be installed in the next three years. One North East is delivering the UK’s Low Carbon Economic Area for Ultra Low Carbon Vehicles, which is bringing together manufacturing, supply chain, skills development and R&D from five world-class universities.

One North East Manufacturing and Productivity Manager, Dr Colin Herron, said:

“One North East has a long and productive partnership with Nissan, which is helping us to create a world-leading infrastructure for the development of electric vehicles.

“We already enjoy excellent support within our region and this excellent new website will be a valuable resource for motorists and for the business community to see how the electric vehicle industry is set to take off in North East England.”
