In March 2004 Northumbria Tourist Board was transferred to One NorthEast. This coincided with the transfer of strategic responsibility for tourism from the English Tourism Council to the UK's regional development agencies.

One NorthEast is now responsible for the development of tourism in the region. Working with our partners, a new tourism strategy has been created (see links below). This is improving co-ordination across the region and increasing the contribution of the industry to the regional economy through enhanced investment and better ways of working.

One NorthEast has appointed John Sands as Chairman of the North East Tourism Advisory Board. This is made up of between 10 and 18 people and will oversee the support and development of tourism businesses and attractions across the North East.
