Tourism Marketing

We are building on the success of the Regional Image Campaign to reinforce North East England amongst regional, national and international audiences as a vibrant, dynamic place in which to live, visit and do business. The campaign is being enhanced to support enterprise, inward investment and rural activities.

The Sage Gateshead will host the World Travel Awards Europe in 2007 and new international tourism campaigns will be launched in Europe,
the Middle East and Australasia, to build on the potential of the new direct flights from Newcastle International Airport to Dubai as well as new routes
from Durham Tees Valley Airport.

We will work closely with the Area Tourism Partnerships (ATPs) to deliver a series of business generating marketing campaigns. Activity will complement regional image campaigns, helping to build awareness and interest in North East England. A new TV advert will promote the region’s flagship tourism products. This will be supported by high profile national press activity and tactical web campaigns. Emphasis will be placed on generating business through the Desti-ne e-business platform.

The region’s first Tourism Strategy was launched in February 2005 (see download below). This sets out ambitious targets for growth both in visitor numbers and what they spend.

Tourism marketing has a key role to play in helping to achieve these targets. It will underpin the work of the Regional Image Campaign, with all activity using the North East England identifier brand and ‘Passionate People Passionate Places’ branding.
