UK Government Support
Through the Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) there are many packages of business support through grants, subsidies and advice, which are designed to meet different stages of a firm's development and growth.
One NorthEast's Business Finance Team is responsible for delivering and administering two of these business support products, which are:
Grant for Business Investment in England (GBI)
- Who is it for? - All Small/Medium size businesses located in the North East, and for large businesses located in or who are considering relocating to one of the region's Assisted Areas.
- What does it provide? - A grant towards a project’s capital cost, subject to criteria on productivity, job numbers and quality, and need.
Grant for Research and Development (GRD)
- Who is it for? - Small businesses with an innovative product or technology.
- What does it provide? - A grant to help businesses carry out R&D that could lead to a technologically innovative product or process.
Furthermore, the Government is currently implementing the Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP), which is an important part of the Government's drive to make the UK a good place to start and grow a business. It is streamlining the grants, subsidies and advice that the Government offers to make it easier for businesses to access help and support. Further information and updates on this process can be found here.
